There is a German Genealogy Group that was established in early 1996 by a group of knowledge and dedicated genealogists interested in providing support to all those researching their ancestors.
They have many free searchable databases at their web site. These databases are made up of all nationalities and are not limited to those of German ancestry. They currently have almost 13,000,000 records with more being added as new databases are completed.
To those pursing their family history, these databases can be a major link to tracing ancestors who arrived as immigrants to New York, many settling in New York City while others moved on after a period of time, but leaving records of birth, baptisms, marriages, naturalizations and death behind. Between 1820 and 1920 over 82% of immigrants to the United States came through the port of New York. Even if they migrated elsewhere, over 100,000,000 Americans have an ancestral paper trail that involves New York City.
